Individual Rations

Wornick Foods builds on more than 30 years of experience in the manufacture and assembly of individual operational rations. An individual ration typically includes a variety of Shelf Safe™ components such as a main entrée, a side dish, snacks, and an accessory packet. These components are packaged to last up to three years at 80° F and provide up to 1,400 calories per meal.

Individual rations are exclusively designed for training, combat operations, humanitarian relief, and when appropriate, severe cold weather conditions.

Individual rations varieties include:

  • MREs (Meals, Ready-to-Eat): Designed to sustain a soldier engaged in heavy activity when normal food service facilities are not available, this self-contained operational ration consists of a food entrée packed in a flexible pouch, other Shelf Safe™ food components, and an accessory packet (matches, toilet paper, gum, hot sauce, coffee, etc.).
  • TOTM (Tailored Operational Training Meal): For institutions that engage in inactive-duty training, TOTM is a self-contained packet consisting of a meal packed in a lightweight, flexible pouch that fits easily into military field clothing pockets.
  • HDR (Humanitarian Daily Ration): Designed to provide relief and assistance to displaced or distressed populations worldwide. Wornick Foods has experience in serving urgent needs for large quantities of humanitarian rations, and has provided custom-designed solutions for on-site disaster workers. All food products are designed to meet the cultural preferences of the consumer.
  • MCW/LRP (Meal for Cold Weather/Long Range Patrol): Designed to provide an operational ration for two different scenarios. In cold weather, the MCW will not freeze and supplies extra drink mixes to prevent dehydration during cold weather activities. Similar to the MCW, the LRP is a restricted calorie ration meant for special operations to be used once a day for 10 days when re-supply is not available and weight and volume are critical factors.

Group Rations

For more than 10 years, Wornick Foods has supplied Unitized Group Ration military group feeding programs. A group ration consists of a variety of food components packed into individual meal modules which create a series of menus, each designed to feed up to 50 persons and provide each approximately 1,450 calories per meal.

The menus feature perishable and non-perishable components such as frozen or Shelf Safe™ meat protein items, fruits and vegetables, starches (such as rice, mashed potatoes, or oatmeal), sweetened flavored drink mixes, and condiments (such as ketchup, mustard, salt and pepper, cups, compartment serving trays, napkins, utensils, and even trash bags). Meal preparation is simple, but it does require the use of special field kitchen equipment.

Group ration varieties include:

  • UGR-A (Unitized Group Ration-A): Designed as a self-contained menu with the components necessary to prepare and serve a hot, restaurant quality meal to a group of 50 persons in the field. UGR-A includes Shelf Safe™ and frozen food components. UGR-A decreases inventory carrying costs and simplifies the ordering, distribution, and logistical process, as well as providing top-quality, easy to prepare commercial food. Wornick Foods offers a variety of meal plans with 7 breakfast and 14 dinner meals available. Food, condiments, preparation instructions, and serving utensils are packed into three cartons - two containing the non-perishable and Shelf Safe™ foods, and one with the frozen food items.
  • UGR-H&S (Unitized Group Ration - Heat & Serve): Designed as a self-contained menu with all the components necessary to prepare and serve a hot, cooked meal to a group of 50 persons in the field, but includes shelf stable food components only. UGR-H&S decreases inventory carrying costs and simplifies the ordering, distribution, and logistical process, as well as providing top-quality, easy to prepare meals. The Tray Pack is a thermally processed food component used exclusively with UGR-H&S group feeding rations, packaged in a hermetically sealed, half-size steam table container. The food seal-packaged in the container (tray) can be heated in a steam oven or by simply submerging the tray in boiling water for a few minutes. The container (tray) can also be used as a serving tray. The Tray Pack system offers versatility as well as a variety of Shelf Safe™ food items. The Tray Pack entrée or side dish is pre-prepared to allow a critical reduction in food preparation time. The product can be boiled in water or heated in an oven. Designed to be served by food service personnel, Tray Pack meals fit perfectly into half steam serving tables.
